Open/Newscast/Credits

 

  1. Mushing Program. The school in Tuluksak has its own dog team, and incorporates mushing and other dog-related activities into its curriculum. Pkg/Angela Denning-Barnes/KYUK. 5:03 (5:36 with intro)
  2. Budgets. A year ago, there were dire predictions that budget cuts would wipe out most activities; that hasn’t happened, but money is still tight. Wrap/Gabriel Spitzer.
  3. 300 villages. Featuring Nunapitchuk, Northway, and King Salmon.

 

Break #1: “Avalanche” performed by Susitna Valley school band, composed by Jonathan McBride.

 

  1. Petersburg Debate/Drama. Petersburg’s program was dropped because of funding – but this year, due to student demand, its back. Pkg/Matt Lichtenstein/KFSK. 4:55 (5:18 with intro)
  2. South African Music. A group from South Africa is in the state, working with school students and performing. Pkg/Ashley Gross. 4:00 (plus more music) 4:20 with intro and tag
  3. New Schools. All these extra activities help create “school spirit”. New  schools have to try to foster those feelings from scratch. Host pkg/Gabriel Spitzer. 4:16
